Explore Burnsall

Burnsall is a popular location as the River Wharfe meanders through green fields on its way down to Bolton Abbey. The Dales Way long distance footpath runs through the village on its way to Grassington via Loup Scar (disabled access as far as Loup Scar), or you can walk southwards to Appletreewick, Barden Tower and Strid Wood – part of the Duke of Devonshire’s estate at Bolton Abbey.

The village was originally an Anglo-Viking settlement and the parish church still contains rare Viking and Anglo-Saxon carved stones. Today, visitors receive a warm welcome from the two hotels, the village shop and two cafés. There is car parking, public toilets and refreshments available all year round on the west side of the river.  Burnsall has a limited bus service connecting it with Ilkley and Grassington.
